The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, discussed key aspects of collaboration and future cooperation within the Union during a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Almaty with the heads of governments of the EAEU member states, as reported by Kazpravda.kz citing the press service of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Participating in the meeting were the heads of delegations from the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union: Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Roman Golovchenko, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mger Grigoryan; heads of delegations from observer countries of the EAEU: First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Aref Mohammad-Reza, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov; Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Idayat oglu Asadov, and Chairman of the EEC Board Bakytzhan Sagintaev.
During his speech, the head of the RK government Olzhas Bektenov emphasized the importance of economic integration and trade development among the Union countries.
“As noted by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Eurasian Economic Union has proven its effectiveness as one of the key platforms where the process of economic integration and mutual trade development is successfully implemented. The ability to effectively adapt to external conditions at the national level, as well as within the EAEU framework, becomes a crucial factor in ensuring the competitiveness of our economies,” emphasized Olzhas Bektenov.
In this context, the Kazakh side highlighted several priority areas for joint work within the Union. Currently, the legal framework of the EAEU allows member states of the economic union to introduce temporary veterinary and phytosanitary measures on the import of certain products. The application of such measures restricts transit through the territory of the state imposing the restrictions, thereby prohibiting access to the destination country. The importance of creating a barrier-free environment in trade relations was particularly noted.
The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan also stressed the significance of fostering a favorable business environment to ensure sustainable economic growth. Currently, a mechanism for assessing regulatory and actual impacts operates within the Union. It has been proposed to expand the application of the actual impact assessment mechanism on international agreements within the Union to improve the conditions for conducting business activities.
Attention was also drawn to the prospects for cooperation in the tourism sector. A proposal was made to enhance efforts towards creating a unified information resource on popular routes and attractions.
As a result of the meeting, participants signed several documents aimed at strengthening the economic potential of the EAEU, improving the business climate, and implementing joint projects.
