The AFWEU Fashion Week Astana showcased a vibrant blend of cultures, highlighting the interaction of various styles and trends, as reported by Kazpravda.kz citing qazaqculture.com
Through their artistry, designers illustrated that fashion transcends mere colors or clothing silhouettes; it is a genuine form of art that allows individuals to discover their unique image, reflecting their inner selves.
“Kazakhstani designers have a deep appreciation for ethnic style and handmade craftsmanship, often weaving traditional motifs into contemporary clothing, as these carry historical significance. In Turkey, there is very little ethnic clothing left. We are leaning towards modernity, heavily influenced by European trends. I know many Kazakhstani designers who specialize in ethnic styles, tailoring wedding dresses that resemble national costumes. I find this fascinating and closely follow the work of my Kazakhstani colleagues,” – shared Aydın Açık, the organizer of the show and the creator of AFWEU Fashion Week Astana.
Designer Zhamilya Utepkalieva from Uralsk brought colorful national costumes. According to her, the demand for ethnic-style clothing in Kazakhstan is growing each year. The collections of the founder of Brand by Zhamilya have already been showcased in Istanbul, Dubai, Cappadocia, and Baku.
“All items in our collection are handmade. Creating a single chapana takes about 10 days. We use only natural fabrics, sourcing them from Atyrau and Almaty. Orders come from all over: from Kazakhstani stars, musicians, and even during international shows,” – noted founder Zhamilya Utepkalieva.
The collection titled “Guni Nomad - Daughter of the Nomad” was presented at the show in Astana by Gulnur Tajegenova, the founder and designer of Guni Brand.
“We aimed to merge modernity with our national character, allowing women to wear clothing that doesn’t compromise their comfort while still emphasizing their connection to a culture rich in history. We source materials from abroad. The collection was inspired by brave Kazakh girls – daughters of nomads,” – emphasized Gulnur Tajegenova.
The event featured participants such as Azamat Sayin, Aikerim Shahman, representatives from Siluet Fashion, and other designers. Gözde Esbiliir also brought her collection from Cappadocia.
“I am very happy to be here in Astana. It is a great joy to share my creativity and witness the merging of our cultures. I thank Aydın Açık for the invitation and all the Kazakhstani viewers,” – expressed Gözde Esbiliir.
The youngest designer at AFWEU Fashion Week Astana was 8-year-old Inju Muratbekova. The founder of the brand Inju Fashion not only prepared a collection but also walked the runway as a model.
“I began promoting my brand at the age of five. We create beautiful yet comfortable clothing. I have participated in shows both in Kazakhstan and abroad. I am inspired by beautiful things,” – shared the young participant.
The AFWEU Fashion Week Astana demonstrated that the world of fashion knows no boundaries, neither spatial nor age-related. Both adults and children can look stylish and express their ideas. Fashion brings people together and fuels cultural interest in one another.
