“Strong broths contain a high amount of purines, which can lead to salt deposits in the joints, posing a particular danger for those with gout. Additionally, excess salt and fats in such broths adversely affect the functioning of the heart and kidneys,” notes the specialist.

During the breakdown of purines in the body, uric acid is produced. Elevated levels of this substance can result in salt deposits in the joints, which is especially hazardous for individuals suffering from gout.

“Moreover, excess salt and fats in these broths negatively impact heart and kidney function. Salt retains fluid in the body, which can lead to swelling and increased blood pressure. Fats, particularly saturated ones, raise cholesterol levels in the blood and heighten the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The kidneys are responsible for eliminating metabolic waste products, including uric acid. Excessive consumption of rich broths can overload these organs,” warns the dietitian.

To maintain health and a healthy weight, it is advisable to opt for light vegetable or lean meat broths. They contain less fat, salt, and purines, while also being rich in vitamins and minerals.

“Soups made from celery are especially beneficial, as they have negative calorie content. Light dishes aid in weight loss, improve digestion, and strengthen the immune system. To make meat broth healthier, it is recommended to limit salt, choose lean cuts of meat, add more vegetables, or prepare it using a second broth. Typically, this is less concentrated and contains less fat,” advised Zhutova.
