Due to this, interlocutors may suspect you of being insincere. This conclusion was reached by specialists from the University of Toronto and Stanford University.
Researchers noted that they conducted eight experiments involving over 5,300 participants. They aimed to investigate how the use of abbreviations affects text perception.
It turned out that individuals who used abbreviations received shorter and less frequent responses. Additionally, they were less likely to share contact information.
Experts believe that this style of communication may come across as insincere. As a result, conversation partners may be reluctant to open up and pursue further contact.
“Although our overall results regarding age were ambiguous, it is clear that young people do not particularly favor abbreviations, although the strength of this aversion may vary by age,” the researchers emphasized.
