The Kazakh welterweight fighter shared insights about his opponents who declined to fight him at UFC 310, as reported by Vesti.kz in collaboration with Submission Radio.
Shavkat RakhmonovInitially, he was slated to compete against champion Belal Muhammad, but he withdrew from the fight due to health issues. Consequently, his opponent became Irishman Ian Garry. Their matchup is set for December 8 in Las Vegas (USA).
"I feel great. I'm ready! Of course, it's frustrating when all the opponents refuse to fight you. It's a bit challenging to prepare when you're unsure whether the fight will happen or not. Usman was the first, but he declined. Prates was also offered, but he is injured, and Covington also turned it down.
I'm glad Garry accepted the fight. We are both undefeated fighters, and we will determine who is better. Honestly, I didn't mind who the opponent would be. I was ready to face anyone willing to step up. Frankly, I don't know why Usman declined. Initially, he agreed, but then he backed out. Perhaps he didn’t want to take a big risk. I have no feelings about Colby. UFC made an offer to Colby. He just talks, but when the offer came, he refused," Rakhmonov noted.
Rakhmonov last fought in December 2023 at UFC 296, defeating Stephen Thompson via submission in the second round. He boasts 18 victories and no losses.
