The Russian website has presented a forecast for the fight between the Kazakhstani fighter (18-0) and the Irishman Ian Machado Gary (15-0), as reported by Vedomosti.ru and Vesti.kz.
They will face off on December 8. The bout is scheduled for five rounds and will be a co-main event of UFC 310.
“Rakhmonov was one step away from the title, but now there’s another hurdle in his path. There’s no doubt that the Kazakh’s motivation is off the charts. Mentally, he appears to be a much more mature and complete fighter compared to Machado Gary. The Irishman, despite his impressive record, does not yet give the impression of a potential champion.
As for skills, Rakhmonov looks like the favorite here as well. He has more options for victory, whether by knockout or decision. The Kazakh is a fantastic all-rounder who can exploit even the smallest mistakes of his opponents. At the same time, he also shows remarkable rationality. Rakhmonov has yet to win by decision, but if the fight goes that way, he is unlikely to rush the events.
However, one should not expect an easy walk with Gary. The Irishman has proven that he is not an overrated prospect. He is also quite versatile and can pose problems for Rakhmonov—especially in striking, where Gary operates carefully, strategically, and accurately. The difference in grappling between the opponents is more noticeable, but the Irishman is capable of competing on the ground, at least defensively.
In summary, we lean towards a victory for Rakhmonov, which for an acceptable odds should be combined with another outcome. When expanding the line, we will add the position that the second round in this fight will begin,” the media writes.
Rakhmonov has won all his previous fights in the UFC by stoppage. Only the bout against Jeff Neil (16-6) lasted until the third round, ending with the American's submission.
Earlier, Rakhmonov also called out other fighters from the promotion. The Kazakh included Khabib Nurmagomedov in his list and labeled Kamaru Usman a “talker.”
