The undefeated Irish UFC fighter Ian Garry (15-0), competing in the welterweight division, has vowed to knock out the Kazakh Shavkat Rakhmonov (18-0), as reported by Vesti.kz.
Their match is set to take place on the night of December 7-8 in Las Vegas (USA) and will serve as a co-main event for UFC 310.
"I'm going to step in and surprise the world by defeating someone who has never lost, the most formidable fighter in our weight class," Garry stated. "I'm incredibly happy with how things have turned out. One could argue that it would be better for me to have more time to prepare, but I actually perform best when I'm under pressure. Shavkat is amazing, I respect him, but I'm confident that I can step in and take him down. I know I can come out on top and do it impressively. My goal at UFC 310 is to prove that I am one of the best in the history of this sport by defeating a fighter that everyone fears… Some might say I'm crazy because Shavkat has 18 finishes and no losses, but I have 15 wins and no losses as well. A crazy person is simply someone who can see the future further than others. Training is training. We train to grow and improve. If Shavkat thinks our fight will be a replay of past training sessions, he is very mistaken… I think he will be active and aggressive at the start of the fight. In the first two rounds, he will try to figure me out. But in the third and fourth rounds, I will start to control the fight. I believe by the fourth round, Shavkat will be out of gas, he will have no options left, and I will find a way to finish him," Garry noted.
It’s worth mentioning that Rakhmonov was originally slated to fight UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad (24-3) at UFC 310. Their bout was supposed to headline the numbered event, but the American withdrew due to health issues.
