MMA fighter and younger brother of Fedor and Alexander Emelianenko, Ivan Emelianenko, has been sentenced to one year and six months in prison for intentionally causing serious harm to health, reports Vesti.kz.
According to Match TV, the Starooskol City Court found Ivan guilty under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The athlete's lawyer announced plans to appeal the sentence.
"The Starooskol City Court sentenced Ivan to one year and six months in a general regime colony. We will appeal the verdict," the lawyer stated.
The incident occurred amidst a conflict provoked by insults directed at Ivan and his family. During the altercation, Emelianenko struck his opponent several times with his left hand, resulting in fractures of the victim's facial bones. Ivan admitted his guilt during the investigation and emphasized that he did not intend for such serious consequences.
Unlike his famous brothers, Ivan has not been able to achieve significant heights in sports. Throughout his career, he has fought only three matches, finishing them without defeat. His last bout took place on March 1, 2024, where he faced Iranian fighter Ali Kheybati. The fight was conducted under boxing rules in MMA gloves under the auspices of Ural FC, and Ivan won by unanimous decision after three rounds.
