Which roads should be deemed poor in Kazakhstan? A deputy has suggested revising the criteria for assessment.

During the session in the Mazhilis, Deputy Nurtai Sabilyanov proposed to reevaluate the criteria for assessing the quality of roads in Kazakhstan, reports NUR.KZ correspondent.
Депутат предложил обновить критерии для определения плохих дорог в Казахстане.

"As the head of state noted, the condition of republican and local roads in the country has justifiable complaints from citizens. At the same time, most of the public's remarks pertain specifically to local road networks.

According to the Ministry of Transport, 87% of local roads are in satisfactory condition.

However, only 31,000 km, or 44 percent of local roads, have asphalt concrete surfaces. The remaining 39,000 km, or 56% of local roads, are covered with gravel, crushed stone, and earth.

"In this regard, we believe it is necessary to reconsider the criteria for assessing the quality of highways, specifically regarding the exclusion of gravel, crushed stone, and earthen roads from those classified as being in satisfactory condition," stated Deputy Nurtai Sabilyanov.

He believes that this will reveal the true state of local roads.

It should be noted that in September, the President of Kazakhstan referred to the condition of the country's roads as a pressing issue during his address.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed launching a digital platform through which the public can monitor the repair and construction of roads.

In October, the Anti-Corruption Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported that over the last five years, more than 6 trillion tenge has been spent on the road sector, yet its condition raises concerns.

In the past two years, over 20,000 complaints from citizens regarding the poor quality of roads have been submitted to government agencies, and the public associates this with corruption. Since the beginning of this year, 24 criminal cases have been registered in the sector.
