How a unified time zone has affected the health of Kazakhstan's citizens: funding allocated for research on the impact.

The Minister of Science and Higher Education addressed questions in the corridors of the Mazhilis today regarding the funding allocated for research on the effects of time changes on the health of Kazakhstani citizens, reports NUR.KZ correspondent.
Влияние единого времени на здоровье казахстанцев: сколько средств выделят на исследование.

"Regarding the study of the time zone. The request came in for a three-year budget of 160 million tenge, but in reality, it will be lower, I think, at least half - around 90-100 million. Why? Because we will announce a competition now. The meeting of the highest scientific and technical commission took place just yesterday. We will announce the competition, and the national scientific council will determine the actual cost," - said the minister.

According to him, this work will not be conducted in the format of a social survey.

"Most likely, there will be an annual cycle. This will be applied research. There is a concept called circadian rhythms - these are the biological rhythms in which all living organisms exist. These are the cycles that wake us up in the morning and make us sleep at night, which relate to the production of hormones, such as melatonin. Hormonal levels will be compared to see if circadian rhythms align with the decisions made, and how this affects biological rhythms," - said Sayasat Nurbek.

Specialists from several institutes will participate in the study. Among them are the Institute of Physiology and the Institute of Geography.

"A public request has been received, so we are compelled to respond. The Ministry of Health has fully supported this; we, as a grant-giving organization, have backed it with scientific grants," - summarized Sayasat Nurbek.
