The UN has appointed an acting permanent coordinator in Kazakhstan.

The United Nations has appointed Stephen O'Malley as the acting permanent coordinator in Kazakhstan, according to a report by NUR.KZ referencing the organization's press service.

It has been noted that today Stephen O'Malley has begun his role as the acting permanent coordinator of the UN in Kazakhstan.

"With over 25 years of experience in development and humanitarian work, Mr. O'Malley brings a wealth of expertise to this position, reinforcing the UN's commitment to advancing sustainable development in Kazakhstan," the statement reads.

According to information on the UN website in Kazakhstan, the office of the UN permanent coordinator in the Republic of Kazakhstan operates under the strategic guidance of the UN permanent coordinator and supports the establishment and implementation of mechanisms that ensure all members can fully participate in consultations and decision-making processes of the UN country team (UNCT), as well as remain informed through regular communication and information exchange.

The permanent coordinator, with enhanced authority and leadership, serves as a senior representative of the UN development system at the country level, appointed and accountable to the UN Secretary-General.
