"The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on 275 individuals and entities involved in supplying advanced technologies and equipment that Russia desperately needs to support its military operations," states the official website of the department.
The department has sanctioned individuals and entities, including those based in China, India, Thailand, Turkey, and other countries.
The release mentions a scheme involving the procurement of machines from Sergey Ushko's company, LLC "Technology of Open Systems." It is noted that the company specializes in the production of metalworking equipment and wholesale sales of machinery. A firm from Kazakhstan is also involved in this scheme.
"Sergey Ushko and Alexander Ushko (his son - ed.) coordinate their actions with their affiliates, Russian citizens Igor Vladimirovich Khomenko and Tatiana Valentinovna Khomenko, to use several intermediaries in Central Asia to transfer modern machines to Russia.
LLC Uzstanex from Uzbekistan and Kazstanex from Kazakhstan act as nominal recipients of batches of machines from Europe, and then send them to the China-based company Shanghai Winsun Imp and Exp Co Ltd (Shanghai Winsun) for delivery to Russia," the release states.
A correspondent from NUR.KZ reached out to the Ministry of National Economy for comments.
Recall that at the end of August, the Kazakh company Catu Tech was included in the U.S. sanctions list for supplying cargo with microelectronics to Russia. At the end of last year, another domestic company, LLP "Elem group," was also placed on the sanctions list of the EU.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Economy noted that the company can continue its operations, except for dealings with American counterparts.
In April of last year, during his visit to Astana, the EU Special Envoy for Sanctions, David O'Sullivan, stated that the European Union does not plan to impose sanctions on third countries, including Kazakhstan. At the end of November, he reiterated that the West respects our country's position to not join in the imposition of restrictions.
In June of this year, Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarov expressed the opinion that Kazakhstan's economy would not withstand the pressure of sanctions. In September, the Minister of Trade and Integration also commented on this situation.
