In Serbia, 13 people lost their lives due to the collapse of a canopy at the train station.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, reported on the collapse of a concrete canopy at the railway station in Novi Sad, the country's second-largest city, according to Orda.kz, citing BBC News.
В Сербии 13 человек погибли в результате обрушения навеса на вокзале.

According to Dačić, two of the injured were taken to the hospital, and one of them had to have their legs amputated. Two more individuals, including a girl, remain trapped under the debris, while rescuers are maintaining contact with them. The number of casualties may still rise, according to the Minister of Internal Affairs.

In total, up to 80 individuals and heavy machinery are participating in the search and rescue operation.

The train station building was renovated in 2021. However, local media reports indicate that the Serbian railway company "Železnice Srbije" did not repair the canopy built in 1964 along with the station.

In light of this, the country's Prime Minister, Miloš Vučević, stated that all those responsible for maintaining the canopy in proper condition will be held accountable. The Prime Minister extended condolences to the families of the victims and expressed gratitude to the participants in the rescue operation.
