A father who blinded himself in a Pavlodar pre-trial detention center may evade punishment for his crimes.
A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the rape of his own child. While in custody, the defendant has blinded himself. A medical commission will now determine whether he will serve his sentence, according to a correspondent from Orda.kz.

A citizen born in 1971 has been found guilty of committing violent sexual acts and raping a minor. He has been sentenced to 20 years in prison to be served in a medium-security facility.
However, his transfer to the facility is currently in question. It has been reported that while in the detention center, the defendant blinded himself in his right eye with a nail. Having issues with his left eye, the man has nearly rendered himself completely blind.
“The question of sending him for a special medical commission will be considered, which will assess his health condition and decide whether to exempt him from further serving his sentence or not. The case materials include a report from a psychological-psychiatric examination conducted in Almaty. Experts concluded that the defendant is aware of the nature and public danger of his actions and can manage them,” explained Nurlan Aitbaev after the verdict was announced.
During the court hearing, the father acknowledged his guilt but refused to testify. He explained that all the crimes were committed while under the influence of alcohol. He fully agrees with the claim for 5 million tenge in compensation for moral damages to the victim. He sincerely regrets the actions he took. According to the case materials, the rapes occurred between February 2021 and May 2023.
The first-instance verdict may be appealed.
