Star American UFC fighter Michael Chiesa shared his thoughts on the matchup between Kazakh fighter Shavkat Rakhmonov (18-0) and Irishman Ian Garry (15-0), as reported by Vesti.kz.
Their fight in the welterweight division will be a co-main event at UFC 310, taking place on December 8 in Las Vegas (USA).
"Wow, this is a great fight, man. I'll keep it short. Rakhmonov and Garry have sparred together, so they know each other well. I’ll take a risk and say this fight will go to the judges' decision. They are familiar enough to counter each other's attacks. The question is who can surprise their opponent. If Shavkat takes the fight to the ground, his chances will increase significantly. I think Shavkat's hand will be raised, and he will become the number one contender," Chiesa is quoted as saying by Sport24.
It’s worth noting that Rakhmonov has never let a fight go to a judges' decision in the UFC.
This will be the first fight of 2024 for the Kazakh fighter. Garry, on the other hand, will step into the octagon for the third time before the end of the year. In February, he defeated American Jeff Neil, and in June, he faced British fighter Michael Page. Both times, the fights went to a judges' decision.
In the UFC welterweight rankings, Rakhmonov is in third place, while Garry holds the seventh spot.
