On behalf of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin, the official representative of the agency Svetlana Petrenko presented the departmental medal of the Investigative Committee of Russia "Courage and Valor" to the correspondent of NTV Alexey Ivliev.
The medal "Courage and Valor" was posthumously awarded to the NTV operator Valery Kozhin. His medal was handed to his widow Tatiana Kozhina.
"Investigators and journalists share common goals. We all strive for truth and justice. Only journalists have a sharp pen for this, while the officers of the Investigative Committee have the Law," Svetlana Petrenko addressed the attendees.
Let us recall that NTV journalists Alexey Ivliev and Valery Kozhin have been covering events in Donbas for quite some time. They were among the journalists who accompanied the first humanitarian convoy to Luhansk in August 2014. At that time, they also came under mortar fire in the center of Luhansk.
An artillery spotter from the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted to direct mortar fire on a group of journalists accompanying the cargo trucks. They were found near the Luhansk administration building. The shells landed in a nearby yard, injuring an elderly woman and a young woman with a 7-year-old girl. A taxi driver was killed in his car in the square in front of the building.
Risking their lives, Valery Kozhin and Alexey Ivliev later reported from Syria and the special operation zone in Ukraine, covering the work of sappers and investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
In June of this year, during a report on the shelling of civilians in the Donetsk People's Republic by Ukrainian armed formations, Valery Kozhin was injured in the head by a fragment from a Ukrainian drone. The injury turned out to be fatal.
Another fragment injured his colleague Alexey Ivliev in the arm.
