The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, discussed key aspects of interaction and the prospects for further cooperation within the Union at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Almaty with the heads of government of the EAEU member states, as reported by Kazpravda.kz citing the press service of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The meeting was attended by the heads of delegations from the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union: Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Roman Golovchenko, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mger Grigoryan; heads of delegations from observer countries of the EAEU: First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Aref Mohammed-Reza, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov; Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali İdayət oğlu Asadov, Chairman of the Board of the EEC Bakytzhan Sagintaev.
During his speech, the head of the government of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, emphasized the importance of economic integration and the development of trade among the Union countries.
“As noted by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, the Eurasian Economic Union has proven its effectiveness as one of the most important platforms where the process of economic integration and the development of mutual trade are successfully implemented. In this regard, the ability to effectively adapt to external conditions at the national level, as well as within the EAEU framework, becomes a key factor in ensuring the competitiveness of our economies,” emphasized Olzhas Bektenov.
In this context, the Kazakh side highlighted several priority areas for joint work within the Union. Currently, the legal system of the EAEU allows member countries of the economic union to introduce temporary veterinary and phytosanitary measures for the import of certain products. The application of such measures restricts transit through the territory of the state imposing the restrictions, thereby prohibiting access to the destination country. The importance of creating a barrier-free environment in trade relations was particularly emphasized.
The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan also stressed the significance of forming a favorable business environment to ensure sustainable economic growth. At present, a mechanism for assessing regulatory and actual impacts operates within the Union. It was proposed to expand the application of the mechanism for assessing actual impacts on international treaties within the Union to improve the conditions for conducting business activities.
Attention was also drawn to the prospects for cooperation in the tourism sector. A proposal was made to enhance efforts to create a unified information resource about popular routes and attractions.
Following the meeting, the participants signed several documents aimed at strengthening the economic potential of the EAEU, improving the business climate, and implementing joint projects.
