Bring out of the "grey zone": Tokayev spoke about cryptocurrencies and issued several urgent directives.

During an extended government meeting, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about cryptocurrencies in Kazakhstan, as reported by NUR.KZ, citing Akorda.
Токаев обсудил криптовалюты и дал ряд срочных поручений для их легализации и вывода из "серой зоны".

According to the official Telegram channel of Akorda, the president emphasized that the planning and execution of the state budget largely depend on the effectiveness of measures to control inflationary processes.

"The National Bank and the government must make bold, unconventional, yet calculated decisions," - stated Tokayev.

He noted that in the context of rapidly changing global economic conditions, the time for template-based actions has passed. Therefore, the measures taken must meet the new serious challenges.

"In my Address, I spoke about the need to change approaches to the circulation of digital assets. In our country, such assets can only be legally traded on the platforms of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC)."

"However, according to experts, only 5% of Kazakhstani crypto investors use the Centre's platform, while the rest operate in what is known as the 'grey zone'."

"It is urgent to create an infrastructure for broader legal circulation of digital assets. Financial regulators must work on developing the corresponding legislative framework," - said Tokayev.

Additionally, today, January 28, Tokayev held an expanded government meeting in Astana. He also called for involving second-tier banks in the implementation of state programs.

At the meeting, Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Olzhas Bektanov proposed increasing VAT. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin explained that there is insufficient tax collection in Kazakhstan and mentioned the possible abolition of the social tax and pension contributions.

Tokayev instructed to expedite the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan and to identify a location for the second nuclear power plant. The president also stated that aviation fuel at Kazakhstan's airports is excessively expensive, hindering their transformation into internationally competitive hubs.
