Question of the day: Who would you give the "Oscar" to?

Sergey Boyarsky, head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies, and Communications:

- I would give the "Oscar" to "Office Romance" featuring the incomparable Alisa Brunovna Freundlich.

Alexander Mikhailov, People's Artist of the RSFSR:

- I saw Yura Borisov in "Kalashnikov," and I haven't seen him in "Anor," but he performed excellently in the first one; he deserves an "Oscar." I acted in a film with the great actor Maxim Matveev - he is growing into a significant performer. If Anton Shagin were nominated for an "Oscar," I would cast my vote for him.

Elena Drapeko, Honored Artist of the RSFSR:

- I love old Soviet cinema. You shouldn't rely on my opinion - those films did not win and will not win an "Oscar."

Vladimir Bortko, director:

- It's challenging to compare the current nominees for the "Oscar" with something like "The Godfather." In my subjective opinion, films made here that could have contended for an "Oscar" include Klimov's "Come and See," Bondarchuk's "The Fate of a Man," and Konchalovsky's "Romance for Lovers." And Bortko's "Heart of a Dog," but that's not certain.

Alexander Shaganov, poet and songwriter:

- Why wasn't Shakhnazarov's film "Courier" nominated for an "Oscar"? You can watch it multiple times and find something new each time. "The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed" could compete with any Western series. "Confrontation" with Basilaashvili would contend for awards in both "Best Film" and "Best Actor" categories. Regarding film music - Eduard Artemyev could have won an Oscar. From "Solaris" and "Stalker" to "The Slave of Love" and "One of Their Own, One of Ours."

Alexander Tikhonov, Olympic champion in biathlon:

- Mikhail Ulyanov should have had an "Oscar." The film "The Chairman" made such an impression on me - it would have outshone anyone in Hollywood. And the "Liberation" series as well. Vyacheslav Tikhonov would definitely have become the best actor. The movie "White Dew" with Sanayev and Karachentsov in the 70s would have outperformed everyone there. And "Shield and Sword" with Stanislav Lyubshin would have defeated any Western action film.

Sergey Stankevich, former advisor to President Yeltsin:

- There was a brilliant film by director Alexander Askoldov, "The Commissar," from 1967; yes, it's old, with music by Schnittke. But it would resonate with modern Western audiences. It features two brilliant performances - by Roland Bykov and Nonna Mordyukova. I still don't understand why this film has not been properly recognized by either European or American film critics and academicians.
