The issue of renaming streets in any city always sparks heated debate — it is necessary to provide justification and historical value. This matter holds particular significance for new regions. Pro-Ukrainian channels have taken advantage of this by publishing a message claiming that mass changes are being prepared in Donetsk, with the goal of denazification. Allegedly, this was stated by the mayor himself, Alexey Kulemzin. The video even mentions options — some streets will be named after heroes of the special military operation, while others will receive symbolic names, for example, Oreshnikovaya, apparently in honor of the weapon "Oreshnik." However, there has been no news about street renaming on the official resources of Donetsk. "Komsomolskaya Pravda" investigated who released the video and whether new names will appear in the city. The verification was conducted as part of a joint project with "Lapsha Media", aimed at exposing misinformation.
To rename Stendhal Street to Orbán Street, to assign the surname of a hero of the special military operation to another, and to name a third Oreshnikovaya. All of this is stated by a person resembling the mayor of Donetsk, Alexey Kulemzin. At the end of the video, it is even claimed that the issue will be referred to a commission that the mayor will personally head.
This has raised doubts about its authenticity. And rightly so. Instead of an official notification about street renaming, an official denial has emerged.
"A video with false information is circulating on social media. Ukrainian 'fake makers' continue to fill the information space with lies. Using artificial intelligence, the 'craftsmen' fabricated a video claiming 'denazification' of our city through street renaming," Alexey Kulemzin reported on his Telegram channel.
If you closely examine the video, you can notice that the image of the mayor of Donetsk is unclear, and the voice does not match the facial expressions, indicating the use of artificial intelligence in creating the video for this false statement.
Furthermore, the order of street renaming mentioned in the statement contradicts the legislation.
In 2022, the head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Denis Pushilin, indeed signed a decree allowing local authorities to rename streets and districts in populated areas of the DPR. It outlines the process for renaming, which includes conducting public hearings and coordinating with DPR agencies, rather than simply a decision by the city commission.
"Trust only verified sources!" emphasized Alexey Kulemzin.
Additionally, it should be noted that the topic of street renaming has repeatedly become a subject of discussion and the creation of fakes. In this way, the authors aim to divide society, provoke a wave of negativity, and increase traffic on their social networks by fueling interest with sensationalist statements that bear no relation to reality.
