In Berezovsky, located near Yekaterinburg, an unusual situation arose after the mayoral elections: the elected head did not attend the inauguration and has not assumed office.

The elections themselves took place on January 30. During the voting, the deputies were to choose between two candidates: the incumbent mayor, Yevgeny Pitsov, or the head of the investment development department, Yulia Maslakova.

Even before the voting began, she announced her voluntary withdrawal from the race, but it was not accepted. Moreover, the deputies voted for her. Following this, she was supposed to take the oath within 15 days, but Yulia Maslakova did not show up for her inauguration.

As Yevgeny Pitsov later explained in his Telegram channel, he continues to work as the head of Berezovsky.

- The Duma needs to make a decision about calling for new elections, - wrote Yevgeny Pitsov. - Yulia Olegovna Maslakova continues her work as the head of the investment department of the administration; today we held a meeting together to integrate my development program for the district into the strategy of the Berezovsky municipal district until 2030. My team and I continue to work for the benefit of Berezovsky, and public receptions are being held as usual.

Meanwhile, a draft decision titled "On Amendments and Additions to the Regulation on the Procedure for Conducting a Competition for the Selection of Candidates for the Position of Head of the Berezovsky Urban District" has been submitted to the local Duma in light of the current situation. The idea is that this will prevent a similar situation from occurring in the future.

- Unfortunately, in recent weeks we have not been presented in the best light before the entire country, - noted Alexey Gorevoy, the chairman of the Berezovsky Duma. - Statements suggesting that we elected a "technical" candidate seem unreasonable to me and contradict the very essence of the current legislation, which provides for competitive struggle. A candidate with extensive work experience and the necessary competencies, who first received support from the competition commission comprised of representatives of regional authorities and the municipal Duma, and then won by a significant margin, cannot be labeled as technical. The proposed changes will allow us to avoid a situation in future competitions where only candidates later referred to as "technical" are presented to the Duma for consideration.

The next meeting of the Duma in Berezovsky is scheduled for February 27.
