“In April of this year, the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan, the Institute of Zoology, and the monitoring group of Okhotzooprom conducted a survey of wild animal populations. Compared to 2020, the number of saigas has increased almost fivefold this year. As of today, in the Pavlodar region, their population exceeds 20,000 individuals,” said Tulepbaev.
Experts attribute this positive trend to conservation efforts implemented in recent years.
According to the head of the Forestry and Wildlife Inspection, from December 1 to December 31, there will be a campaign called “Saiga,” aimed at preserving the animal population. During this month, measures to protect saigas will be intensified.
“As before, this time, protective measures will be carried out in the habitats of saigas — in the Bayanaul and Maik districts, as well as in the territories of Ekibastuz and Aksu. During the campaign, police officers, employees of the 'Okhotzooprom' association, and specialists from the Forestry Inspection will be involved. I would like to remind everyone that illegal removal, storage, transportation, and destruction of saigas, their meat, or derivatives are subject to criminal liability,” emphasized Tulepbaev.
