Kazakhstan chicken tested positive for a harmful bacteria, according to Rosselkhoznadzor.

On January 29, the Russian Agricultural Supervision Authority announced the detection of listeria bacteria in poultry meat produced by the "Makin Poultry Farm." However, this information was later removed from the agency's official website. The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan stated that they have not yet received confirmation of laboratory tests from the Russian side, as reported by Orda.kz.

Listeria causes an infectious disease known as listeriosis, which affects the nervous system and reproductive organs. This illness is particularly hazardous for pregnant women and newborns. The incubation period can last up to 90 days. Symptoms include fever, chills, nausea, muscle aches, and in severe cases, seizures and loss of balance.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan clarified that enhanced laboratory control does not prohibit the supply of products to EAEU countries, but each batch is subject to inspection. Meanwhile, the agency has not yet received official confirmation of identified violations from Rosselkhoznadzor.

“Currently, the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan has not received information from Rosselkhoznadzor with confirming results of laboratory tests. According to the EAEU Regulation No. 94, authorized bodies are required to inform all interested parties of identified violations within ten working days,” the Ministry of Agriculture stated.

In light of the situation, the Akmolinskaya Regional Territorial Inspection of Veterinary Control will conduct an inspection of the enterprise and additional laboratory tests.

The "Makin Poultry Factory" has been operating since 2018 and is one of the largest in Kazakhstan. In 2023, the enterprise increased production to 90 thousand tons of poultry meat per year. The products are marketed under the "Kus Vkus" brand and are available in stores across Kazakhstan. The company claims that regular inspections are conducted at all production sites involving technologists and Halal certification specialists.

Previously, Kazakhstan banned the import of poultry from the USA and Germany due to an outbreak of avian influenza. The restrictions came into effect on January 20.
