“To ensure the timely implementation of projects aimed at developing railway infrastructure, the tariff policy will continue to be improved. The interests of domestic producers will be fully considered. Currently, a number of measures are being taken to gradually increase tariffs and implement a price cap mechanism. A new tariff methodology is also being developed with the involvement of experienced international consultants in this field,” said Karabaev.

During the briefing, the minister clarified that this does not pertain to train tickets for passengers, but rather concerns freight transportation.

“The price will not change, including during the upcoming holidays,” the minister assured.

According to the agency's information, 17.6 million passengers were transported in the first 10 months of 2024, which is a 6% increase compared to the same period last year. By the end of the year, it is planned to transport 21 million passengers.

Moreover, as the minister noted, in order to create favorable conditions for passenger transportation, modernization of railway stations is necessary. Of the 59 major railway stations, 54 are in need of repairs.

“To date, major repairs have been completed at the stations in Kyzylorda, Shymkent, Pavlodar, and Turkestan. For the remaining stations, relevant technical documents are being developed, and funding sources and mechanisms are being explored,” concluded Karabaev.
