Doctors stated that the children died due to toxic food infection, infectious toxic shock, and brain edema. Specialists examined the food products at the store where the food was purchased. In the house, they also collected samples of all food items, water, and even performed air tests. However, nothing suspicious was found, except for nitrites — an additive used in the food industry.
A criminal case was initiated by the police department of the North Kazakhstan region regarding the "Violation of sanitary rules and hygiene standards, resulting in the negligent mass poisoning of people and the negligent death of two or more individuals." However, due to a lack of evidence of a crime, it was dismissed.
“Materials from this criminal case were separated into a separate proceeding, and a pre-trial investigation was initiated under Article 317, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 'Improper performance of professional duties by a medical or pharmaceutical worker, resulting in the negligent death of two or more individuals.' An investigation is underway,” the press service of the police department of North Kazakhstan reported.
The police have not disclosed further details of the case. Meanwhile, the regional health department revealed that two months after the tragedy, the rural nurse resigned voluntarily.
