Kassym-Jomart Tokayev responded by stating that Kazakhstan is viewed by many countries as a state of strategic importance. He noted that Kazakhstan is referred to as a "middle power," which necessitates responsible behavior on the international stage.
“At the same time, as the Head of State, I deal with domestic policy issues on a daily basis, and I consider this work absolutely essential. Therefore, the assertion that my activities are skewed towards foreign policy is incorrect,” Tokayev emphasized.
Additionally, while discussing foreign policy, he reiterated that Kazakhstan remains a supporter of the UN as a "common home for all humanity." This prompted a journalist to ask the president about rumors circulating online that Tokayev may lead the UN in 2026, and that early presidential elections might be held in Kazakhstan for this reason.
“I had the opportunity to head the UN Office in Geneva for almost three years as the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN and the Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament. I gained valuable experience and understanding of the mechanisms of international processes. I believe that this is more than sufficient. I have ambitious plans for the country's development for many years to come, which I intend to implement,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev replied.
