A journalist noted that information has surfaced online about a fundamental reform being prepared, which would involve Kazakhstan transitioning to a parliamentary system of government. He asked the president to comment on these rumors.
In response, Tokayev stated that a parliamentary system certainly has its right to exist. In several European and even Asian countries, it has taken deep root. However, there is no universal formula for governance; each state, when choosing a political system, is guided by its historical context, national mentality, and political practice.
"My administration is closely studying global practices. It is evident that the parliamentary system in post-Soviet countries has not yet demonstrated its advantages; recent events in Georgia clearly support this conclusion.
The choice of a political system of government is an extremely responsible decision, and it should be made not behind closed doors but through a nationwide referendum. I am convinced that my concept of 'Strong President – Influential Parliament – Accountable Government' is the most suitable for Kazakhstan's political system. However, to fully implement this concept, we have significant work ahead. I believe that the presidential form of government is currently and will remain the most optimal for Kazakhstan in the near future.
Neither I nor any of us have the right to make decisions that would harm the stable and sustainable development of our state. We cannot afford to make mistakes here. After all, all constitutional innovations, the reform of the parliament, the elections of akims for villages, districts, and cities, the establishment of the National Kurultai, and, most importantly, the emphasis on the rule of law – all of this serves as a reliable guarantee against political stagnation," Tokayev expressed his opinion.
In an interview, he also commented on rumors regarding early parliamentary elections in the country. According to the head of state, the information buzz surrounding this topic is being deliberately created.

Additionally, Tokayev commented on rumors about his plans to head the UN in 2026, which would lead to early presidential elections in our country. The president stated that he has more than enough experience in the UN Secretariat and has long-term plans for the country's development that he intends to implement.
Moreover, the president mentioned that crises should be viewed without excessive dramatization, noting that compared to other countries, we have been successfully managing all crisis situations since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
