Livestock mortality risk: The Ministry of Agriculture has issued a statement to livestock farmers.

The relevant agency is urging attention to weather conditions and to take necessary measures to ensure the safe wintering of livestock in remote pastures, reports Kazpravda.kz.

The Ministry of Agriculture has provided a weather forecast for February, noting that this month remains one of the most challenging for livestock breeders due to its climatic characteristics and circulation patterns being very similar to January's.

According to data from "Kazhydromet," the average monthly air temperature is expected to be -10 to -16°C in most of Kazakhstan, -1 to -9°C in Atyrau, Kyzylorda, Zhambyl, Almaty regions, the Zhetysu region, most of West Kazakhstan, Mangystau, the southwestern part of Aktobe, and the northern half of Turkestan regions, while 0 to +3°C is anticipated in the extreme southwestern part of Mangystau and the southern part of Turkestan regions.

The amount of precipitation in February is expected to be above normal in most of the country, around normal in most of Mangystau and Turkestan, in the southern parts of Atyrau, Aktobe, in the northern part of Kostanay, the northwestern part of North Kazakhstan, the southwestern part of Ulytau region, in the northern half of Kyzylorda, and in the southwestern part of Zhambyl regions.

“In this regard, we request that you ensure animals have access to warm and dry shelters. Increase the amount of feed, as animals require more energy to maintain their body temperature during the cold season. Check feed supplies, as sharp climate changes may affect the availability and quality of feed.

Ensure access to fresh water, avoiding the freezing of sources. Regularly monitor the health of the livestock. By following these recommendations, you will be able to provide comfortable wintering conditions for the animals and minimize the risk of mortality,” the message states.
