Referendum in Moldova: Is the country moving towards EU membership?

According to Orda.kz, the gap between supporters and opponents of Eurointegration was minimal for several hours.
Референдум в Молдове: стремится ли страна к вступлению в ЕС?
The incumbent president, Maia Sandu, who advocates a pro-Western stance, received 42.07% of the votes according to the Central Election Commission of Moldova. Her main competitor, the pro-Russian candidate and former attorney general, Alexander Stoianoglo, garnered 26.27%.

The situation with the referendum is more complex. Initial reports indicated that those opposing Moldova's accession to the EU were leading in the voting. Later, for several hours, the results fluctuated around 50% each, with only a few votes separating them.

However, according to data at 10:30 AM in Chișinău, supporters of European integration were in the lead with 50.16%.

This data was published by representatives of the Central Election Commission on their official Facebook page. Meanwhile, the official website of the Moldovan Central Election Commission is currently inaccessible.

Joining the European Union is considered Maia Sandu's main presidential project. At the same time, Moldova de jure continues to be a member of the CIS, although in 2024 it denounced part of the agreements signed by the cooperation participants.
