The Ministry of Agriculture noted that February is likely to be one of the most challenging months for livestock breeders, as its climatic characteristics and circulation patterns closely resemble those of January.
According to data from Kazhydromet, the average air temperature for the month is expected to be -10 to -16°C in most parts of Kazakhstan, -1 to -9°C in the Atyrau, Kyzylorda, Zhambyl, Almaty regions, the Zhetysu region, in most of the West Kazakhstan, Mangistau regions, in the southwestern part of the Aktobe region, and the northern half of the Turkestan region, with temperatures ranging from 0 to +3°C in the extreme southwest of Mangistau and the southern part of the Turkestan region.
Precipitation in February is expected to be above normal over most of the country, around normal in much of the Mangistau and Turkestan regions, in the south of Atyrau, Aktobe, in the north of Kostanay, in the northwest of North Kazakhstan, in the southwest of the Ulytau region, in the northern half of Kyzylorda, and in the southwestern part of Zhambyl region.
In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture urged farmers to ensure that animals have access to warm and dry shelters and provided a series of recommendations:
- Increase the amount of feed, as animals require more energy to maintain body temperature in cold weather.
- Check feed supplies, as abrupt climate changes may affect the availability and quality of feed.
- Ensure access to fresh water, preventing sources from freezing.
- Regularly monitor the health of the livestock.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by following these recommendations, livestock breeders can provide comfortable conditions for wintering their animals and minimize the risk of mortality.
