And this is despite the fact that it has been less than three months since the last universal rate hike.

The culprit behind the previous price jump in August was the company Tele2, which announced an increase in subscription fees of nearly 40 percent. At that time, customers were given two options. The first was official, requiring users to pay more for questionable service quality. This, by the way, came with a "bonus" in the form of a limited duration for the increased tariff - until January 31, 2025.

The second option allowed users to simply switch operators if they were dissatisfied with the proposed arrangement. However, soon all service providers followed Tele2's lead and raised their prices to the point where changing providers lost all meaning. Considering the monopoly on mobile services in the country, Kazakhstanis were left with no choice.

This time, Beeline decided to follow the bad example by raising tariff prices by 1000 tenge starting October 17. When asked about the reasons for such a significant price increase, the answer was clear: the cost of mobile services depends on market conditions. In other words, familiar excuses like rising service consumption, equipment costs, currency exchange rates, inflation, and similar factors came into play.

A company representative described the price increase as a necessary measure. According to him, mobile internet consumption is consistently rising: it grew by 33% in 2022, 23% in 2023, and is projected to grow by 18% this year.

“This affects network load. To reduce it, we need to purchase and install more equipment. To improve the quality of mobile communication and internet, we plan to invest 74 billion tenge this year in supporting and expanding the current network, which is about 18 billion more than last year. We know there are still many areas in the country where service and internet quality are lacking. Often, this occurs due to factors beyond our control (for instance, when local residents oppose antenna installations due to radio phobia). However, we are increasing investments every year and making every effort to reduce the number of such areas,” the company stated in an official message published on social media.

Updates to tariff plans among operators are occurring more and more frequently. The regular price increases can only be compared to the daily disruptions in internet and mobile service for Kazakhstanis. Apparently, they will once again be left with no choice and will continue to "increase investments in service quality" at their expense.
