On January 8, Donetsk held a farewell ceremony for Alexander Martemyanov, a freelance correspondent for "Izvestia," who died near Gorlovka as a result of an attack by a strike drone of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The journalist was buried at the Alley of Heroes in Donetsk.

Several dozen people gathered at the "Donetsk Sea" cemetery to bid farewell to Martemyanov: his relatives, colleagues, friends, and representatives of regional authorities and agencies.

- Sasha had a dream; he wanted the world to see all the moments he captured—murders of our peaceful citizens by the Ukrainian forces, the killing of children. He wanted to show the whole truth, - said Konstantin Kuzmin, Chairman of the People's Council of the DPR. The speaker of the regional parliament presented Alexander's parents with the Order of the Republic, which Martemyanov was awarded posthumously.

Martemyanov's colleagues say that his death is an irreplaceable loss.

- Sasha was a kind, completely selfless person, - says journalist Dmitry Yagodkin from "KP Donetsk." - He always helped colleagues and assisted people. He loved animals. Often, when we would go to a shelling in a frontline area, if Sasha saw a cat, he would stop, approach it, feed it, pet it, and then we would continue on. He united colleagues; he was like a backbone in journalism.

"KP" correspondent Alexander Ivanov met Martemyanov in 2023.

- He was always willing to help, very responsive, often helping even at his own expense. A kind-hearted person, - Ivanov recalls. - From his trips to frontline villages, from places where combat actions were nearby, he often sent photos of how he helped people, fed cats and dogs, and brought humanitarian aid. He never spared himself for others. He wouldn't hurt a fly, and that saying perfectly describes him.

We remind you that freelance correspondent for "Izvestia," military correspondent Alexander Martemyanov, died in the DPR as a result of a drone strike by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on a civilian vehicle carrying journalists. The tragedy occurred on January 4 on the Gorlovka-Donetsk highway. Four other journalists were injured. The group of correspondents was returning from filming in Gorlovka, an area that has been under fire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Martemyanov was a military correspondent who had been working since the beginning of hostilities in Donbas in 2014. The journalist documented the consequences of attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces throughout the DPR—in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, in Gorlovka, and in Yasynuvata... During the battles for Mariupol, he reported on the evacuation of civilians, risking his life. In 2023, during one of the shoots, Alexander came under fire from Ukrainian militants. Martemyanov sustained penetrating wounds to both thighs.
