A local resident sustained a workplace injury to his leg on October 25, 2023. He was taken to the hospital, where his wound was treated with antiseptics, necrotic (dead) tissue was removed, and the wound was stitched up without providing drainage for the discharge of pus and fluid. As a result, fluid accumulated in the already stitched wound, leading to an infection.
The defendant in the case was a surgeon from the Zhanibek District Hospital. The court established that the doctor acted negligently and irresponsibly regarding his professional duties and failed to perform them properly.
However, the victim chose to forgive the doctor despite losing his leg.
“During the proceedings, the victim informed the court that the material damages he incurred had been compensated by the defendant. He reconciled with the doctor through mediation, forgave him, and submitted a request to terminate the criminal case,” reported the ZKO regional court.
The court ruled that the surgeon's crime falls into the category of less serious offenses. The defendant was released from liability.
Earlier, we reported that surgeons at the hospital in Balkhash received a reprimand for the death of a patient due to appendicitis.
