In an interview, the head of state was asked how he envisions Kazakh-American relations in the coming years and whether the complex relationships between the USA, China, and Russia would have an impact on them.
"Indeed, there was a substantive and candid conversation with President Donald Trump. I can confidently say that he views Kazakhstan positively as an important strategic partner of the USA. We agreed to maintain working contacts at a high political level. Trump and his team will focus on advancing new meanings and approaches in international politics, which will inevitably influence the global situation.
"I have been involved in establishing Kazakh-American relations since the mid-1990s. Over more than three decades of mutual cooperation, a common vision of priorities has developed - trade-economic and investment cooperation, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, and security. This agenda will form the basis of our joint work with the new administration in the White House.
"During a phone conversation, Donald Trump inquired about our perspective on ending hostilities in Ukraine. This topic is not new to me, as many leaders of states and international organizations have asked similar questions throughout 2024. The situation is unique: Russia is militarily invincible, while Ukraine hopes to withstand the war with the help of Western allies, at least not to lose it. Therefore, I emphasized the exceptional complexity of the issue, the resolution of which depends on the will and desire of the leaders of the conflicting countries and, of course, on Trump as the leader of a world power. I stressed that Kazakhstan has advocated for the initiation of negotiations to achieve peace since the very beginning of the military actions in Ukraine," - noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The President also emphasized that Kazakhstan "does not seek to position itself as a mediator; we act on the international stage according to Kazakhstan's potential and capabilities, but we are always ready to assist in resolving international problems."
"The fact is that tension on the international stage affects Kazakhstan's trade and political relations with certain countries, which is why we strive to minimize the negative impact of external trends. Kazakhstan aims to build pragmatic and mutually beneficial ties with all interested states," - summarized Tokayev.
In early December, a phone conversation took place between head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and elected President of the USA Donald Trump, during which the politicians reaffirmed their mutual commitment to the intensive development of strategic partnership in the areas of trade, investment, and nuclear non-proliferation.
It is worth noting that in November of this year, Donald Trump secured the necessary number of votes to win the election, after which he was declared the elected head of the USA.
Following this, Tokayev sent his congratulations to Trump on the occasion of his convincing victory in the presidential elections in the USA.
Prior to this, in July of the current year, Tokayev expressed condemnation after the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump.
Additionally, it should be noted that the inauguration of the next president of the United States will take place on January 20, 2025, in front of the Capitol building in Washington.
