Think the holidays are over? Not at all, they are just getting started! However, we will have to wait a whole four months for the next long weekends. Here’s why.

In the upcoming year, Defender of the Fatherland Day falls on a Sunday, while International Women's Day is on a Saturday. Therefore, we won’t have long weekends for either February 23 or March 8. It will just be a regular five-day work week.

But when a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the law requires that we be compensated for it. The government has decided to move the holiday from February 23 to May 8, and from March 8 to June 13.

Thus, in spring and summer, we can look forward to three mini-holidays, each lasting four days:

- From May 1 (Thursday) to May 4 (Sunday)

- From May 8 (Thursday) to May 11 (Sunday)

- From June 12 (Thursday) to June 15 (Sunday)

After that, we will have a three-day break in November for National Unity Day. But before that, we will work for six days. We can't just relax all the time, can we?

KNOW!

Double Pay or Day Off

And let's also remind you that work on a holiday must be generously compensated by the employer. Here’s what the law dictates regarding payment:

- For salaried employees - double the rate.

- For piece workers - at double rates.

- For workers paid by tariffs – at double the tariff rate.

Additionally, working on a holiday may entitle an employee to an extra day off. In this case, the work on the holiday will be paid at the standard rate. If the employee is salaried, their salary for the month they take this day off will not decrease.
