The National Bank has warned about the increasing incidents of counterfeit national currency.

“The National Bank of Kazakhstan emphasizes that according to Article 231 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the production, storage, transportation, or sale of counterfeit money or securities is subject to criminal prosecution. In this regard, the National Bank of Kazakhstan has submitted a request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan to conduct an investigation into the dissemination of such counterfeit items,” the regulator warned.

As a result, citizens are advised to pay extra attention to the markings when using banknotes and to verify their authenticity. If any suspicious banknotes are detected, including those imitating the external features of genuine currency, it is necessary to immediately contact law enforcement authorities.
