The facility was initially scheduled for commissioning in 2022. However, construction was halted due to the pandemic and financial difficulties.
Following the establishment of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the reconstruction of the Kyzylorda hydrojunction has resumed. To ensure the efficient operation of the facility, damaged components of the hydraulic structure have been repaired, and other issues have been resolved.
It is noteworthy that the hydrojunction is designed to irrigate approximately 120,000 hectares of land on both the left and right banks of the Syr Darya River and to hydrate around 2 million hectares of desert area.
“The issue of completing prolonged or suspended projects is under close scrutiny by the ministry. For instance, for the first time in 36 years, the Aktobe reservoir has been reconstructed. In the West Kazakhstan region, the Kirov reservoir has been repaired for the first time in 58 years. There is also active work being done to complete the construction of the Eskulinsky, Talapsky, Presnovsky, and Sokolovsky group water pipelines. These projects are aimed at providing citizens with quality water. Therefore, it is crucial to bring them to completion and put the facilities into operation,” said Nurtjan Nurzhigitov, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
