Nurlan Ermekbayev has assumed the role of Secretary-General of the SCO and presented a report to Tokayev.

Starting January 1, 2025, Nurlan Ermekbaev will officially assume the role of Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). In this regard, he held a meeting with Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as reported by Orda.kz.

Particular attention was given to issues of regional and global security. The President also called for improvements in the organization’s operations, enhancing collaboration with other international entities, and supported Kazakhstan's initiative to promote the SCO's idea of "Global Unity for a Just World, Harmony, and Development."

The appointment of Nurlan Ermekbayev as the Secretary-General of the SCO was made in accordance with the decision of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization. Ermekbayev will oversee the organization's efforts aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation among member states.
