The journalist noted that the president has repeatedly spoken about building a Just Kazakhstan. In this regard, he asked Tokayev to explain how he understands justice and what meaning he attributes to the fundamental principle of reforms.
"First of all, I will say this: the demand for justice has existed throughout all times and in all countries. Kazakhstan is no exception. As mentioned, the deficit of justice in the country had reached a critical level before the tragic events became known.
Justice is not about universal equality. My course on the fair distribution of national wealth does not imply total expropriation, redistribution of property and assets in any way. That is not our policy, as it would lead to degradation and chaos.
Therefore, the cancellation of unlawfully obtained preferences and benefits, as well as the return of illegally acquired assets to the state, are not populist steps but rather a strategy aimed at modernizing Kazakhstan based on the principle of justice.
A just state is a rule-of-law state where all citizens are equal before the law, and where equal opportunities for all are based on strict adherence to laws, rules, and norms. By the way, as a result of efforts to return unlawfully acquired financial and other assets to state ownership since 2022, over 2 trillion tenge (4.1 billion dollars) have been effectively returned, which is being used for the construction of schools, important infrastructure projects, and addressing other social issues. Isn't this justice?" – shared the head of state.
