A new governor has been appointed for the Turkestan region.

Nuralkhan Kushev has been appointed as the akim of the Turkestan region, as reported by Bizmedia.kz, citing the press service of Akorda.

"By the decree of the Head of State, Kusherov Nuralkhan Oralbaevich has been appointed as the akim of Turkestan region," the official statement says.

Previously, this position was held by Darkhan Satybaldy, who led the region from August 31, 2022. On January 6, 2024, he was appointed as the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration.

Nuralkhan Kusherov was born in 1984 in Shymkent. He holds a higher education degree, having graduated from the South Kazakhstan State University named after M. Auezov, the Kazakh Humanities and Law University, and the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation in Moscow. His specialties include economics, finance and credit, and jurisprudence.

He began his career in 2008 as an assistant to a deputy of the Mazhilis Parliament. He then held positions as an analyst and specialist in tax authorities, including Deputy Head and Head of the State Revenue Department in Astana.

From 2015 to 2018, Kusherov served as Deputy Akim of Shymkent. In the following years, he held leadership roles in the State Revenue Department in Aktau, Shymkent, and Atyrau region.

In January 2023, he was appointed Deputy Akim of Turkestan region, and he has now taken the lead in the region.
