The capital's prosecutor's office has decided to adhere to the principles outlined in the saying "Better to see something once than hear about it a hundred times" by conducting mock court trials on criminal cases in the city's schools.

This interactive format, according to the press service of the supervisory authority, allows for the engagement of a large number of children.

It is noteworthy that this way, teenagers can visually learn about the proceedings and specifics of court cases related to the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

This time, the "court" process took place within the walls of school No. 83 named after Ybray Altynsarin in the city of Astana.

An employee of the prosecutor's office acted as the conditional defendant, while high school students served as the lawyers.

- Today, 250 children attended our situational court session. They are students from grades 9, 10, and 11. This is exactly the age group that sometimes falls into the nets of drug criminals, as children are recruited as couriers. We wanted to demonstrate what the consequences of a thoughtless step can be, - said Gulmira Zharmenova, the director of gymnasium No. 83.

Overall, she emphasized the importance of preventing offenses among youth.

- When they hear and see it on television, it's one thing. But when they sit in the hall and some of them participate in the session, the effect is much more educational… When they see firsthand how the session unfolds. Our students took on the roles of prosecutor and lawyer, while the judge was an employee of the prosecutor's office. They realized how serious this is, how important it is not to break the law, not to commit illegal actions. They learned what consequences could arise from their actions. Especially since the conditional accused was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Everyone reflected on this after the session. I think it was very beneficial for the students, - she added.

Interestingly, after the verdict was announced and the session officially concluded, many remained in the hall. The students exchanged opinions and shared impressions.

Moreover, to enhance the effect, they were shown a video of a real arrest of an actual criminal.

- It was very exciting, to be honest. Everyone began to think about the need to consider themselves first, their parents, their teachers, and their school. During the "session," all articles of the Criminal Code related to drug offenses and sanctions were explained to them in accessible language. The responsibilities of parents were also highlighted. I believe they will definitely tell their parents about everything, and parents will pay more attention to their children's upbringing, - said the educator.

An important emphasis was also placed on the fact that criminal liability for drug offenses in Kazakhstan begins at the age of 14.

- Many of our children are involved in sports, and they say that drugs are evil. First and foremost, they understand that using these substances means putting a cross on their future. They expressed this opinion today… I believe that such demonstrative, mock court processes should be conducted in all schools, colleges, and universities in the city to protect our children from criminal encroachments. I think this initiative will be supported by all colleagues, - concluded Gulmira Zharmenova.

The students themselves also shared their impressions.

11th-grade student Daniyal Askerov, who acted as one of the lawyers, stated that the event was very informative:

- I realized how important it is to obey the law and how serious the consequences can be. I'm glad that this event was held in our school - it is truly aimed at preventing drug offenses.

He was supported by Jangir Sarsenov, also an 11th-grade student:

- Today, we had a very educational and engaging "session" at our school. I played the role of the prosecutor. To be honest, I was nervous at first, but as the process unfolded, I got into the situation and my anxiety disappeared. I wanted to convey as much information as possible to my classmates. The scenario itself was very illustrative - the accused had no parents, raised by his grandmother, and he became a courier. But no one forced him; he chose this path himself - he wanted easy money. But it doesn't work that way. You have to pay for everything, and he will pay with 11 years of his life. I urge all students in our school and the youth not to go down this road and to remember their responsibilities. Study and work honestly - that is the only right path to success.

The prosecutor's office in the capital states that such events aim to strengthen zero tolerance towards drug distribution in society.

- It was conducted by employees of regional prosecutors' offices under the coordination of the city prosecutor's office. The participants included students who showed active initiative and interest in such events. Prosecutors explained the harmful consequences of drug addiction, the inevitability of punishment for drug offenses, and the procedure for presenting and evaluating evidence in court, which ultimately leads to real imprisonment for the guilty party, - the press service of the agency reported.

An important factor in conducting such mock court processes was the principle of "territorial oversight," as personal responsibility for the scale of drug distribution in the entrusted administrative-territorial unit lies with the heads of the respective prosecutor's offices.
