“Heating points were set up where people could warm up, receive hot drinks, and rest. Medical teams were on site, ready to provide necessary assistance,” reported the regional Department of Emergency Situations.
One of the travelers from Novosibirsk, who came to VKO for the New Year holidays, shared that he had planned to make it through before the snowfall began.
“At the Osinovsky Pass and in nearby settlements such as Altai and Serebryansk, heating points with 30 spots are operational. We have prepared water, food, and warm clothing. If necessary, we will increase the number of spots to 40 to ensure no one is left without assistance,” said Denis Erimbesov, acting head of the Altai district police department.
After several hours of rescue work and an improvement in weather conditions, the road was reopened. However, the police department advises refraining from travel in challenging weather conditions. It is important to pay special attention to forecasts and recommendations from safety services.
