Impostors posing as police officers were apprehended in three cities across Kazakhstan.

Since the beginning of the year, personnel from organized crime units have apprehended 14 offenders posing as police officers, according to Orda.kz, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
В трёх городах Казахстана задержали мошенников, выдававшихся за полицейских.
  • In November, a group of fraudsters in Shymkent posed as police officers and set up an extensive extortion scheme. Through blackmail and promises of "protection," they received up to 1.5 million tenge each month.
  • In Aktobe, two young men, also pretending to be police officers, openly and forcefully stole 300 thousand tenge from two city residents.
  • In Kónayev, two residents of the Almaty region were detained for threatening to disseminate compromising information. They demanded 500 thousand tenge from a young man in exchange for silence.

During searches, law enforcement seized fake service badges, documents, and uniforms that were used to lend them an air of "officiality."

“Modern technologies enable fraudsters to easily gather various information about potential victims, making their criminal schemes more convincing. Criminals also frequently employ psychological tactics to manipulate individuals, instilling feelings of guilt or fear. Public awareness and vigilance can significantly reduce the occurrence of such crimes. In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs strongly recommends that any illegal actions by individuals impersonating law enforcement officers be reported to the police immediately,” stated Kuan-dyk Alpyс, a representative of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
