Billions of tenge will be invested in modernizing the power grids in two regions of the country.

The project will significantly reduce the number of accidents and decrease the wear and tear on the networks.
В двух регионах страны будет выделено миллиарды тенге на обновление электросетей.

“The government has approved the national project ‘Modernization of the Energy and Utility Sectors,’ which entails a comprehensive upgrade of networks and infrastructure. As part of the national project, the modernization of over 77,000 km of power supply networks is planned across the republic, with a total budget of 2,755,526 tenge. This initiative aims to reduce wear and tear from 67% to 45%,” the government reported in response to a parliamentary inquiry.

The government believes that this national project will significantly lower the wear level and reduce the number of accidents by enhancing repair capacities nationwide, prioritizing regions with high wear levels, including the Abai region.

To achieve the set goals, the implementation of the national project will focus on four key areas:

  • modernization and construction of the energy and utility sectors;
  • increasing their investment attractiveness;
  • enhancing domestic value;
  • creating a mechanism to compensate the population's expenses in case of tariff increases.

“An essential component of the national project is attracting private investments and developing mechanisms that encourage private companies to participate in infrastructure modernization, which will help accelerate the process and reduce the financial burden on the state budget. Thus, the national project includes preferential financing for the East Kazakhstan region and the Abai region, amounting to 145 million 294 thousand tenge, which will allow for the modernization of approximately 2,400 km of power supply networks, significantly decreasing wear and accident rates, ensuring uninterrupted power supply services,” the response stated.

Previously, deputies of the Mazhilis raised concerns regarding power supply issues in the East Kazakhstan region and the Abai region.
