The "Shymbulak" resort is set to be linked with another recreational area.

Курорт "Шымбулак" собираются связать с другим зоной отдыха.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports via their Telegram channel, a meeting was held to discuss the development of the Almaty mountain cluster, where Vice Prime Minister Roman Sklyar was presented with proposed innovations.

As reported by the agency, the main objectives of the project include:

The official website of the Group of Companies states that the "Shymbulak" resort is located in the picturesque gorge of the Zailiyskiy Alatau at an altitude of 2,260 meters above sea level, just 15 minutes from downtown Almaty. It is noted that Shymbulak was established in 1954. Since the mid-1950s, it has served as a training base for Soviet skiers, hosting the USSR and Kazakhstan championships on its slopes.

Earlier, news about the potential opening of a new mountain resort in Almaty was shared via the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, where responses from Deputy Minister Yerzhan Yerkinbaev to questions from foreign journalists were published.

According to the deputy minister, during the recent meeting, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted three focal areas in tourism: the Almaty mountain cluster, the Mangystau and Burabay resort zones.

It is also worth noting that Tokayev previously emphasized the importance of developing tourism in the country, particularly in Almaty.

At that time, the president criticized the government's plans to develop 20 tourist zones simultaneously across all regions of the country, stating that such an approach is ineffective and would lead to the dispersion of the state's limited resources.

"The most suitable directions are: the mountain cluster of the Almaty region, beach tourism in Mangystau, and the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort area. Almaty is the main center for tourism development in Kazakhstan, accounting for a quarter of the entire tourist flow, including half of all foreign tourists. However, the city's tourism infrastructure cannot cope with the growing demand.

On weekends and holidays, the number of visitors to Shymbulak exceeds its capacity by 2.5 times. Therefore, it is crucial to further develop the ski cluster, including through the construction of an all-season mountain resort in the Turgen gorge of the Almaty region," said the head of state at that time.
