At an auction in the city of Foz do Iguaçu in southern Brazil, she was sold for 4.14 million dollars, reports Kazpravda.kz citing Rg.ru
The previous record holder was also Brazilian.
The Nelore breed, to which Carina belongs, is the primary breed among Brazilian farmers. The buyers of the record holder are four of the largest agribusinesses in the country, supplying beef worldwide.
Such representatives of the breed are kept in luxurious conditions. The cow lives in a separate room and has 24-hour security and cleaning services. She follows a special diet, being fed the finest silage and hay. Every day, she is bathed with hypoallergenic shampoo and taken outside for walks. A special net is installed outside the stall to prevent any wild animals, particularly snakes, from approaching the cow.
Regular grooming is even provided. When record holders like Carina attend exhibitions, their ears are coated with sunflower oil for added protection and moisture.
The high price of Carina FIV do Kado is explained by the fact that individuals like her are part of the gene pool of their breed. She serves as a donor of biological material. Each year, specialists extract up to 800 ova, which are then fertilized under laboratory conditions. This biological material can later be used both for breeding show-quality representatives of the breed and for producing premium cuts of meat.
In mid-February 2025, a law allowing the cloning of animals will come into effect in Brazil. This law was primarily enacted in the interest of advancing the country's agriculture and is expected to simplify access for smaller farming operations to the gene pool of specimens like Carina, provided that a series of strict conditions are met.
