Kazakhstan has changed its mind about rejecting Russian wheat.

The Ministry of Agriculture has discussed potential measures for regulating wheat imports, according to Orda.kz.
Казахстан изменил свое решение о запрете на импорт российской пшеницы.

The Ministry of Agriculture explained that imports will proceed without restrictions; however, the situation in the domestic market will remain under control. If necessary, new regulatory measures may be implemented.

“The question of introducing any non-tariff measures to regulate wheat imports will be decided considering the grain market situation, particularly: grain reserves, the level of demand and supply in the market, the need to protect the interests of domestic producers, and to combat 'gray imports' and illegal re-export schemes, as well as circumstances in the global grain market,” the Ministry of Agriculture clarified.

A complete ban on the import of Russian wheat was imposed against the backdrop of a high harvest in Kazakhstan. Prior to August, there were restrictions, but with exceptions for flour millers and poultry farmers.

Last year, Kazakhstan recorded a record wheat harvest, which became a headache for local farmers. The problem lies not only in the surplus in the domestic market but also in the declining demand from traditional importers, as well as temporary export restrictions to the Russian Federation. What experts and agricultural producers say about this can be read in this article.
