By 2030, a large-scale project aimed at enhancing the transportation infrastructure will be implemented in Kazakhstan, as noted by the authorities. The total length of new highways will reach 4,700 kilometers, of which 3,700 kilometers will be Class I roads.
Major projects are set to commence in 2025:
The total investment volume for these projects exceeds 9 trillion tenge, and efforts to attract investors are actively underway.
In the area of rail transport, the acquisition of 225 new wagons is expected in 2025.
“The construction of railways for the Dostyk — Moyynty projects will be completed, increasing capacity fivefold and ensuring uninterrupted operation of 12-60 pairs of trains, as well as the ‘Almaty Bypass’. There are also plans to open routes on the Dostyk — Beskol and Moyynty — Balkhash sections. This decision will help improve train traffic on the indicated sections and address issues related to freight transportation,” the ministry added.
In 2025, new airports will also be constructed in the resort areas of Katon-Karagay, Zaisan, and Kendirli. Work is underway to finalize land plots and design these facilities.
To develop maritime transport, the construction of a container hub in the port of Aktau has begun, which will increase its capacity to 240,000 TEUs per year. This will enhance container transportation through the Trans-Caspian route via Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, and redirect some transit cargo coming from China to Europe.
Additionally, dredging works are planned at the port, which will increase its terminal capacity and make it more efficient for container shipping.
