TikTok will prohibit teenagers from using beauty filters.

Beauty filters are specialized tools in applications designed for virtual enhancement of appearance. According to TikTok employees, such technologies have a negative impact on the mental health of minors.

“In the near future, filters that artificially enlarge eyes, lips, smooth skin, or alter its tone will be banned. However, cartoonish filters that, for example, add bunny ears or dog noses to users will not be subject to this restriction,” the publication clarifies.

The reason for this decision stems from growing societal concerns regarding the mental health and self-esteem of children. Some minors find it difficult to accept their natural appearance after using technologies that enhance it virtually.
