“Germany and its international partners are focused on ensuring that the internal Syrian process is not disrupted from the outside. To this end, we have developed important principles together with the UN in Aqaba (a city in Jordan. — Ed.). Among them is the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity by all neighboring states. Russia should also give up its military bases in Syria,”
stated German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
In an official press statement reported by the news agency Step News, the head of the French Foreign Ministry noted that Paris is ready to provide the new Syrian administration with technical and legal assistance in drafting a Constitution. He emphasized the importance of initiating an inclusive dialogue that encompasses all ethnic and political groups in the country.
Barrow and Baerbock also visited the Sednaya prison, infamously known as a torture center under the Assad regime.
The head of the Syrian government, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is the leader of the group “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham,” which led a swift offensive resulting in the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime. This group is not on the list of banned terrorist organizations in Kazakhstan, but it is prohibited in Russia.
